Dr. Rita Tamayo, Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will be our guest speaker. She will be having lunch with SACNAS members interested in learning more about her background and trajectory into science. She studies C. difficile, a bacteria that is responsible for many of the nosocomial infections seen in the developed world. Dr. Tamayo will be explaining a little bit about her research as well as the importance of being an underrepresented student in science and some of her challenges she's faced.
