Parent Organization: UNC-Chapel Hill

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Chuck Dietzen, the Timmy Global Health has the mission of building healthy futures by expanding access to healthcare and education, while empowering students and volunteers to engage directly in global development.  To accomplish its mission, the organization connects each of its 12 university student chapters to international organizations in Ecuador and Guatemala.  Each chapter then fundraises on behalf of these partner organizations, helping fund projects or programs that expand the international organization’s capacity to perform health outreach to the underserved. Additionally, each student chapter is responsible for helping organize a short-term medical brigade—including the procurement of over-the-counter medicines, recruitment of medical professionals, and some relevant training. The short-term medical brigade is just one small facet of the year-round work of student chapters, but is instrumental in empowering volunteers to devote a lifetime to global health issues and other factors influencing poverty.
