Any major, class level, and interests may apply. Editorial, communications, or organizational experience a plus, but not required.

The People, Ideas, and Things (PIT) Journal is now accepting applications to join our team of undergraduate and graduate student editors. Some benefits of joining our team include gaining experience and training in acaedmic publishing, building your resume, getting a chance to attend national conferences with us, having opportunities to publish academic research about your experiences being an editor, and most importantly being part of a really funny and interesting group of people who are committed to supporting undergraduate research at UNC. Students who are eligible for work-study and those who need to fulfill the Experiental Education EE requirement should contact the editorial team at pitjournal@unc.edu for more information.

As an editor you will:

  • work collaboratively with student researchers to support them during all stages of the research and writing process
  • comment periodically on student work either electronically or face-to-face
  • attend weekly (30-45 minutes) editor meetings
  • help organize and host an annual undergraduate conference where students can share their research as a work in progress
  • help guide the future of the journal through a variety of leadership opportunities

We are seeking the following qualities in current and future editors:

  • a genuine interest in good ideas
  • a desire to create knowledge
  • a willingness to push the boundaries of the academy to create new opportunities for undergraduates to conduct and share their research
  • a commitment to participate enthusiastically and professionally
